If you’re like me, you enjoy a great meal, but sometimes feel the need to keep yourself hidden away in the safety of your own home watching series so to avoid spending money. Don’t fret! You can still enjoy a gourmet experience in Cape Town while keeping your bank account happy. Here are the best gourmet restaurants in Cape Town you can do on a budget:
Foxcroft is part of the La Colombe family in Constantia and offers lunchtime specials throughout the year. Until 24 November, they’ll be offering a beautiful 4-course spring menu for R320 per person on weekdays. You could also opt for their 4-course tasting menu at R435 a head. Expect a burst of flavour with dishes like the crisp pork cheek, spring risotto and pickled squid.
Address: Shop 8/9, High Constantia Centre, Groot Constantia Rd, Cape Town
If you’re looking for a formal but cosy setting, La Boheme in Sea Point is perfect. They offer gourmet, homely meals at an affordable price. You can get 2 courses for R180 per head, 3 courses for R210* or share a seafood paella for R320.
Address: 341 Main Road, Sea Point, Cape Town
If you don’t mind travelling out of town a bit, Steffanie’s Place in Somerset West is a relaxed, high-end restaurant with an excellent wine list in addition to hearty pastas, curries and fresh seafood. It’s a great place to take your family or loved ones and has a scenic view if you decide to eat lunch on the terrace.
Address: 113 Irene Ave, Montclair, Cape Town
La Mouette in Sea Point is one of my favourite gourmet restaurants and every season they boast an incredible tasting menu. This summer they will be serving 5 courses for R445, or R820 paired with wines, carefully selected by the head chef, Henry Vigar. You can look forward to lamb neck, kudu loin and, of course, their signature dish, the truffle cheese croquettes.
Address: 78 Regent Road, Sea Point, Cape Town
Always be on the lookout for gourmet restaurant specials in Cape Town; they are forever competing with one another for your time and money. Also watch out for Restaurant Week in October where you can get incredible discounts and specials from gourmet restaurants around the Western Cape. Enjoy yourselves and remember to tip.
*Editor’s Note: It was previously noted that you could get 3 courses for R180, but has been updated to reflect correct costs.
