Happiness served on a silver tray!
Looking for a beautiful place to enjoy a spot of tea (or bubbly), the sunset or whales playing around in the Atlantic? Hop off at the President Hotel in Sea Point for an oh-so-delectable high tea!
High teas are something of a must-do experience in the Mother City. Restaurants, hotels, spas and even some lifestyle stores offer their own variations of it. I have to admit I am a complete and utter sucker for high tea — you have me at dressing up and tiered platters with tiny sandwiches stacked on top! As high tea is almost a hobby for me these days I’ve tried and tested most famed high teas of Cape Town, and recently had the pleasure to enjoy the President Hotel’s inaugural event.
The President Hotel is a landmark hotel in Cape Town, although most people have never visited it themselves. Their beautiful pool and terrace looking out on the Atlantic Ocean is somewhat iconic.
When you are outside on the wooden terrace underneath white umbrellas surrounded by greenery and the blue water from the pool and ocean, you feel as though you’re at some exclusive Mediterranean resort. A sentiment that only gets stronger upon the arrival of a glass of bubbly and giant silver trays filled with treats. Who needs a holiday if you could have bubbly and cake, right?
For only R195 per person, you will get much more than you bargained for as well. The afternoon starts with Bellini tea infused bubbles, followed by the tiered trays filled with cucumber sandwiches, crumpets topped with salmon and caviar, tomato basil and mozzarella tartlets, scones topped with lemon curd, cheese or nutella, macarons filled with dulce de leche, lemon tartlets, milktarts, baked cheesecake tartlets, profiteroles, millionaires shortbread and the famed “President Lamington”. Now try saying all of that in one breath!
Having gone high tea hopping around Cape Town, I can attest that you won’t find a better deal anywhere else. The President just so happens to tick all the boxes: gorgeous views, a gorgeous setting and more treats that anyone could ask for.
Be sure to keep in mind that the President is perfectly equipped for events such as bridal or baby showers or even a big family party separate from the smaller tables.
