Every time I come to downtown St.Catharines I am discovering new one-of-a-kind places. Going to university here I always connected downtown with a night-life scene. Now that bar-hopping is lower on my favourite past time list, I am realizing what wonderful places there are to visit in daylight. On this particular Saturday, I stumbled across Hometown Ice Cream.
It was a super cold day and raining but that did not stop us for stopping in for some dessert. Hometown Ice Cream makes all natural ice creams, sorbets, and sherbets. All the ice cream is made in house from the finest local and seasonal ingredients that are free of preservatives and artificial flavours. With unique flavours like carrot cake, and salted caramel crack you will have some serious issues just picking one flavour. There are even vegan options such as coconut& lime, and strawberry rhubarb sorbet.
I combined toasted coconut and caramelized banana ice cream. Talk about amazing. It was rich, creamy and delicious. With real pieces of toasted coconut, and so much banana flavour I was in pretty much licking the bowl by the end. It was the perfect tropical escape from a rainy drab day.
Saturday June 3rd marks the Grand Opening of Hometown Ice Cream and I’m excited to see this place flourish. I can’t wait for the warm weather so I have more excuses to eat ice cream. Don’t forget to tag #gimmethescoop when you visit!
