In Cape Town’s foodie Mecca, Kloof Street, Yuzu Kitchen and Bar has recently opened its very cool doors. Prepare for a night of fabulous food by Michelin star trained chef Rikku Ó’Donnchü, fantastic cocktails, and the coolest vibe in town.

Yuzu Kitchen and Bar, located in a former Ocean Basket, has been hollowed out and transformed into an homage to cult-classic movie Kill Bill, with secret “Ka Pow!” easter egg references scattered across the walls for guests to find and enjoy. The artistic care taken into the design, from the burnt black timber floors, blood red windows and outdoor courtyard is exceptional, creating a fun party atmosphere without becoming cliche. If there ever were a place perfect for a long evening of drinks and food, this would be it.
The broader theme of the restaurant is American-Japanese fusion. Think Rock ’n Roll Ramen and fantasy cocktails to create a truly unique dining experience. Some of these fun dishes include: Kung Fu Katsu, a chicken Katsu slider on steamed bread with an Asian slaw, The Italian Ninja, an Asian ceasar salad made with nashi par, crispy anchovies and tempura egg yolk and Sashimi Oyster, a simple soy dressed oyster with pink grapefruit and Thai basil. All the dishes can be paired with their range or artisanal, locally sourced cocktails.
Yuzu has a bar area, main restaurant seating area and an outdoor courtyard, which means you can start at after-work drink and make your way through the restaurant for dinner. Be sure to book in advance as Yuzu is currently one of the hottest tickets in town.
