Our local olive oil judges Reni Hildenbrand, Benedetta Lami, Jackie Loubser, Marlene Loubser and Michelle Kruger began their five-day blind tasting of the 2021 SA Olive Award entries this past Monday, 23rd August. Judging of the oils will continue until 27th August 2021, under the skilful guidance of Italian olive oil expert and Panel Leader Aldo Mazzini.

Each entry is conscientiously explored and assessed for the complexities of aroma and flavour and the balance of fruity, bitter and pungent attributes, in the search for the very best of South African Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO). The standard of South Africa olive oils is generally very high and compares well with the best EVOOs in the world, making an award received in this annual olive oil competition not only an accolade to the producer but also an assurance for consumers that they will be buying the best available in South Africa.
