Cape Town is never short of activities to keep everyone busy and entertained, especially not in summer when it is the destination to be. Whilst being outdoors has its place, sometimes all you want to have is some down time. With schools out, keeping the kiddies entertained 24/7 can be a little daunting. Enter Canal Walk to your rescue.
So while having some me-time, doing some retail therapy, Christmas shopping or just having a day out of the blazing sun, Canal Walk’s Space Station can keep the little explorers content.
An out of this world journey through the galaxies awaits learning and playing simultaneously whilst having maximum fun. Launching with the Giant space maze to steer through different terrains, escaping black holes one slide at a time, steering through the asteroid pit with floating planets that need to be dodged, glowing UV beams that need to be navigated through and an interactive constellation chamber. Not forgetting the pop-up planetarium to transport you further into the solar system. An exhilarating experience right from the moment of blastoff.
Keeping with the holiday spirits; none other than Mr Santa himself is there to accompany you on your voyage to outer space. Additionally you can detour to the virtual reality experience, where you guaranteed to be taken out of this world.
As space travel can be taxing on the little explorers, there’s a wonderful chill zone next to the space café where they can refuel and catch their breath and parents can take some time out and enjoy a drink whilst the little ones explore. Treats that vary from asteroid cookies, interstellar doughnuts, blasting brownies, moon rock muffins, space cloud cotton candy, cosmic ice coffee and space slushies. There’s something to satisfy everyone.
This and more is waiting for you to join in on. Situated at the Centre Court in Canal Walk. Officially open to the public from 7 December to 14 January 2018 (only closed on Christmas Day). Tickets start at R40 depending on which expedition you choose. 45 minute voyages start every hour on the hour from 10am all the way through to 9pm.
I was fortunate to experience this first hand at an eventful VIP launch evening. In-between socialising, exploring and eating there was even time for a celebrity virtual reality showdown. Local comedian, Start Taylor blew the contest out of the galaxy and was the lucky winner whom with the help of the generous mall got to donate R10 000 to the charity of is choice, South African Tortoise Rescue.
So what are you waiting for astronaut, better don your space suit and venture out on the ultimate galactic adventure of discovery and delight. Do not forget to buy your space photos to boast of your expedition. To infinity and beyond!
