For this Joburger any chance to visit Cape Town is a wonderful experience. When The Cape Milner came calling, I knew this visit would be rather special.

Touted as an eclectic mix of contemporary boutique and old-world charm, I couldn’t wait to leave the hustle of Jozi behind and experience everything this trendy Tamboerskloof gem has to offer.

Upon my arrival, I was warmly welcomed and taken through all the relevant Covid protocols before being whisked up to the luxurious Executive Suite. I was immediately struck by the room’s modern elegance, expertly designed by Beth Murray. I could have happily stayed in the comfort of my suite, particularly in the King-size extra length bed, but with just 2 days to explore I had much to see and experience.

My first stop was for a drink in the gorgeous 1920s Speakeasy inspired Glass Lounge. With a variety of signature cocktails on the menu, I settled on a Long Island Ice Tea to sip on while taking in the majestic views of Table Mountain. As the sky darkened and the stars came out, it was time to peruse the dinner menu.

My eye was immediately caught by one of my favourites – Baked Camembert. Having sampled this dish at many restaurants, I couldn’t resist. What a cheesy delight it was. Creamy camembert with garlic pureé, cranberries, ciabatta and Cumberland sauce. Still feeling hungry from my travels, I indulged in a rich and delicious Rosemary Glazed Lamb Shank with mash, ratatouille vegetables and tomato gravy for mains. To end a glorious day and mouth-watering meal, I opted for the Passion fruit and Vanilla Cheesecake for dessert. A real sweet treat accompanied by ginger infused berry compote and granadilla sorbet.

Feeling more than satisfied, it was time for a stroll around the pool deck to take in the night time views of Table Mountain and Lions Head before retiring to the comfort of my suite.

As the sun peaked gently through the curtains the next morning, I woke up feeling well rested and ready for the day. I popped down to 2 On Milner for a quick breakfast before heading for a walk on the Promenade and some more exploring. At the end of a busy day, I found myself back in the Glass Lounge, my new favourite spot, for cocktails and dinner with friends.

After a few mojitos and caipirinhas we decided to go for something From the Block. A 200g ostrich fillet with chips and creamed spinach. A hearty helping which more than hit the spot. Some coffees rounded off a delicious dinner and soon it was time to turn in.

The next morning I found it rather difficult to leave my room so I decided to order in. In no time at all there was a knock on the door with a breakfast spread fit for a king. A cheese omelette, hash browns, lamb and chicken sausages, a selection of fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. Now that’s the way to start the day.

It was soon time to bid everyone at The Cape Milner a very fond farewell. I’ll certainly be back soon for more Milner magic!

Easter is on its way and you too can enjoy some time away with The Cape Milner’s Easter special offer. Pay for 2 nights and stay for 3 or have 2 kids under 12 stay free. There will also be a special Easter themed breakfast and an Easter surprise for the kids.
