A Celebration of Queer Strength and Resilience

The Johannesburg Queer Chorus (JQC) presents RISE! – a performance in celebration of queer strength and resilience on 31 July 2022 at St Columba’s Presbyterian Church in Parkview, Johannesburg.

Following the JQC’s first sell-out performance in February 2022, the chorus, now bigger and even more enthusiastic than before, returns to a bigger venue and with a new repertoire of music.

Together with soloists Khumo du Toit and Cuan Humphries, the chorus will be presenting a musical production sure to entertain young and old. Music Director of the JQC, Ruth Coggin, says: “For this, our second concert since lockdown, we will present an interesting and varied choice of music to illustrate the theme of ‘rise’. The audience will enjoy both familiar music and that which may be new to them, sung with vigour and verve by this enormously talented group. The concert will undoubtedly linger in the memory for a long time.”

Thomas Coggin, chairman of the JQC says, “The JQC is a valuable space to cultivate and nurture the LGBTQI+ community and their friends and family. We have grown considerably over the past few months, and we look forward to welcoming new members in August for our new season, which observes and honours both pride and the struggles we face as a queer community, past and present.”
