The Magical Marble Family Fest Debuts as Johannesburg’s Most Wonder-Filled Family Experience
This past weekend, 12 000 Explorers stepped into a world of imagination, storytelling, deliciousness and wonder at the inaugural Magical Marble Family Fest.
Transforming James & Ethel Gray Park into a living storybook of colour, creativity, performance and play, the festival delivered a first-of-its-kind immersive family experience unlike anything Johannesburg has seen before.

Created by the collaborators behind The Luxurious Marble Circus, The Magical Marble Family Fest was designed as a multi-generational world where children, parents, teenagers and grandparents could truly find fun together. From magical characters and fireworks to projection-mapped castles, carnival rides, glow-in-the-dark candy floss, delicious food experiences, immersive storytelling and interactive play zones, every part of the festival was built around the idea that meaningful family experiences are those that are shared.
“It felt like stepping inside a storybook. There were pockets of joy around every corner.”
“The feeling stayed with us long after we left.”
“The kids had the best time, but honestly so did the adults.”

Those sentiments echoed across social media over the course of the weekend, as guests shared reflections on the magical world that came alive.
Something that also garnered a lot of attention was the food.
With Marble as a key collaborator, the festival elevated family dining beyond the expected festival food. Across the grounds, families gathered around beautifully curated food spaces filled with firm favourites, playful treats and elevated Pantry-inspired offerings designed to appeal to every age. From sushi to soft-serve, lobster rolls to burgers, prego’s to pizzas, the Marble team provided delectable dishes throughout the day.
As Family Fest was brought to life through its design, characters and activities, the intentionality behind the festival could be found in the spaces for Explorers of every age. Tiny Town catered to the small humans that needed a safe space away from the hustle and bustle, a giant jumping castle was filled with tweens and teens all day long, Stella Artois, Casamigos and Explorer Suites offered premium hospitality for adults, and the Magical Forest was abuzz with activity ranging from Minion meet and greets, to hair bedazzling, karaoke, live DJs, artisanal chocolate tasting and who can forget the interactive Crocs space that ran queues all weekend, and more!

Saturday and Sunday each carried their own distinct energy with crowds vibing to artists all day long. From 12-year-old DJ Ethan English who captured the hearts of Mzansi, to GoodLuck who brought the SA grooves, to Sun-El who dropped the Sunday beats, to Mi Casa who jazzed up the stage to massive crowds, added to by the goosebump-worthy show moments that had everyone ‘oohing and aahing’ into the night.
Special mention goes to Anele Mdoda, who enchanted Explorers throughout the weekend as the festival’s Fairy Godmother, bringing her signature charm to families. Joined by her son Alakhe, ambassador of the Explorers, their playful spirits, hugs and interaction helped bring the world of The Magical Marble Family Fest to life.
As a celebration of South African creativity and collaboration, The Magical Marble Family Fest created a world that felt proudly local while delivering a global standard of festival experience.
Importantly, the event’s purpose extended far beyond entertainment.

Through its partnership with Exclusive Books, the festival collected over 4,000 books as part of its book drive initiative, while also creating educational and behind-the-scenes learning opportunities for students from the National School of the Arts. Funds raised through the event will continue supporting broader Legacy initiatives connected to The Luxurious Marble Circus projects which uplift food, fashion, creativity and sustainability with the aim of leaving a legacy beyond luxury.
As a sold-out inaugural event, organisers acknowledge that there were valuable learnings that come with building an entirely new festival world at this scale. But for the team behind The Magical Marble Family Fest, this first edition was always going to be the prologue to an amazing story.

“The response this weekend reminded us how deeply families are craving experiences that allow them to reconnect through imagination, storytelling and joy,” says Adam Byars, Co-CEO and Partner at Grid Worldwide. “This wasn’t simply about creating a festival. It was about intentionally curating a world where families could enjoy every moment together, in a space that felt happy, full of wonder and just a little bit luxurious.”
