As excitement builds for The Addams Family Musical ahead of its highly anticipated South African premiere, here’s a mini spotlight on some of the lead actors in this iconic production. The Addams Family Musical is showing at Cape Town’s Homecoming Centre, formerly the Fugard, from 14 December 2024.

Samantha Peo  

Leading the cast as the unforgettable Morticia Addams is Samantha Peo, an acclaimed South African musical theatre star.  With leading roles in productions like ChicagoCabaret, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peo brings a commanding presence to the stage, having earned multiple Naledi and Fleur du Cap awards. Audiences can expect her portrayal of Morticia to be just as captivating—sultry, poised, and undeniably charismatic.  Peo gained widespread recognition as a judge on the SABC3 reality competition series Strictly Come Dancing.

Tiaan Rautenbach

Opposite Peo, in the role of Gomez Addams, is the versatile Tiaan Rautenbach, an actor known for his work on popular South African TV shows such as 7de Laan and Isidingo.  A Naledi Award winner for We Will Rock You, and having recently wowed audiences as Bill Austin in Mamma Mia!, Rautenbach’s portrayal of Gomez will blend comedy and charm, with deep familial devotion, making him the perfect patriarch for the eccentric Addams clan.

Brendan van Rhyn

Adding a unique flavour to the production is Brendan van Rhyn as Lurch. Known for his larger-than-life performances, including Cathy Pacific and Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, van Rhyn is sure to infuse his own blend of humour and physicality into the role of the beloved Addams family butler.

Jordyn Schaefer

Taking on the role of the mischievous Wednesday Addams is Jordyn Schaefer, a rising star in the theatre world.  Known for her dynamic stage presence and versatility, Schaefer will bring Wednesday’s darkly comic, yet tender-hearted character to life in a way that is both fresh and faithful to the original.

Chad Baai

Playing Lucas Bieneke, the love interest of Wednesday, is Chad Baai, a bright young actor from Cape Town who has garnered acclaim for his roles in Mamma Mia!, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, and David Kramer’s Danger In The Dark.  His passion for storytelling and dynamic stage presence have solidified his reputation as a notable performer in the South African theatre industry.  Chad is also a well-known TV personality on shows such as Breekpunt, Wyfie and Arendsvlei.

Bethany Dickson

Bethany Dickson plays the role of Alice Beineke and known for her outstanding body of work both locally and internationally.  South African musical theatre royalty, she has captivated audiences with her moving leading-lady performances in numerous productions including Maria in The Sound of Music, Sandy in Grease, Betty Schaefer in Sunset Boulevard, Miss Honey in Matilda and Kathy Seldon in Singin’ in the Rain

Yahto Kraft

Rounding out the lead cast is Yahto Kraft as Uncle Fester, a standout performer who rose to fame on The Voice South Africa. Currently starring in Meatloaf – The Rebel Ride in JHB his flair for bold performances and his signature vocal style will make Fester an unforgettable and hilarious presence in the show.

These performers, and the rest of the talented ensemble, will bring the quirky and lovable Addams family to life in a production filled with heart, humour, and captivating musical numbers. Audiences can expect a thrilling mix of eccentric characters, lively choreography, and music that will have them laughing, singing along, and maybe even shedding a tear.
