“All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my mother.” This is a quote I hold very close to my heart as it serves as a reminder of how we need to cherish our wonderful mothers. My mom, Leonie, is truly my biggest fan and puts the needs of her sons above her own without question. With our busy lives and careers, it’s so easy to lose sight of this and think mom will just always be there when we need her. When my mom’s birthday comes around, I think of those words and make sure she feels special on her special day. This year I decided it was time to really treat mom. With the help of the wonderful team at The Maslow Hotel we planned a day filled with spoils. On the Sunday morning of her birthday we arrived at The Maslow in Sandton. Mom had no idea what was in store for her as we were whisked upstairs to Africology Spa. We were greeted with our gowns and slippers and enjoyed a delicious Africology Exotic Rooibos Tea Blend as we awaited our 90min full body massage – an experience mom had never had before. The Maslow Journey helped us both unwind with a therapeutic approach tailored to both our relaxation needs. It’s clear to see why Africology is one of the top rated spa experiences in Sandton.
Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, mom and I spent some time in the rooftop garden, chatting and enjoying the time together. Something we don’t do enough of. That wasn’t the end of mom’s special day though. We were treated to an indulgent lunch prepared by the talented Maslow Chefs. We both opted for the fillet steak – mine with veggies and parmesan mash and mom’s with hand cut fries. This was followed by a deliciously sweet lemon meringue for mom and decadent chocolate gelato to satisfy my sweet tooth. As the afternoon wore on it was time to head home, rejuvenated for the week ahead. Thank you to The Maslow for a wonderful birthday experience. Not sure how I’ll top this next year!
