Ticket sales now open as SA’s food, music, art and fashion trendsetters get ready to celebrate 30 years of creative freedom in South Africa

Global IconJanet Jackson and International Grammy Award-winning music superstar Jill Scott will join leading local headliners such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Sjava and the Soweto Gospel Choir at this year’s DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival Powered by LottoStar, to celebrate 30 years of creative freedom in South Africa at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 21 and 22 September 2024.

In 1994, South Africans headed to the polls in the country’s first-ever democratic election, representing the dawn of a new, non-racial era that saw the nation’s creatives and artists being finally free to express themselves in vibrant style.

Now, to celebrate three decades of creative freedom since this pivotal moment, this year’s DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival Powered by LottoStar will be expanding its focus to highlight not only outstanding food and music but also art and fashion. And we all know how stylish Mzansi’s fashionistas are and how innovative our artists can be!

Multi-award-winning R&B/pop hitmaker Janet Jackson, who has sold over 100-million records over her illustrious career, and beloved neo-soul singer-songwriter, model, poet and actress Jill Scott will lead the celebrations, alongside a constellation of South African stars.

Taking place once again over the heritage weekend, South Africa’s most iconic and trendy lifestyle festival – now in its 11th year of making enduring memories – over each weekend day, will also feature a special performance honoring the greats from our music industry.

An ensemble featuring an array of stellar musicians will pay musical homage to our late, great artists of yesteryear. The 30 Years of Creative Freedom Show will be performed by Boom Shaka, Cassper Nyovest, Focalistic, Khuli Chana, Maggz, Morafe, Okmalumkoolkat, Reason, Robot Boii and Touchline on Saturday and Mzwakhe Mbuli SNR, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Jesse Clegg, Zolani Mahola with more artists to be announced soon.

Saturday will also see songstress Thandiswa Mazwai (fresh from her sensational TinyDesk x globalFEST set for NPR with a brand new album to boast), pioneer of the electronic dance music scene in South Africa, G-Force on the decks as well as Legends Live by Oskido, a newly crafted dj set with a live band warming up the crowd to fever pitch before the divine Janet Jackson takes to the stage in the evening.

On Sunday, our very own Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir will elevate spirits and stir souls through the joy of music, with an incredible live band performance by Sjava, The Maestro (aka Greg Maloka) on the decks, as well as the Legends Live by Oskido keeping the mood upbeat and celebratory before Jill Scott rounds off the Delicious weekend in velvet-smooth style.

Say festival co-founders Tom Pearson-Adams and Lloyd Cornwall, “We are thrilled to be returning with a very special commemorative festival to celebrate 30 years of creative freedom in South Africa.

“Something that sets our rainbow nation apart is our exceptional creative and cultural talent, which has been a cornerstone of the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival since we started out in 2013. We are excited to be building on that to include a special spotlight on our country’s cutting-edge artists and fashion designers at this year’s event.”

Group chief marketing officer Yatish Narsi says Multichoice and DStv, the title sponsor, will also be observing a special milestone this year: “Multichoice is proud to share in the 30-year celebration, having been founded in late 1994. Our business has a unique place alongside our young democracy, and we are honoured to have played a role in enriching the lives of South Africans through the likes of DStv. This festival has grown tremendously over the last 11 years. It has become South Africa’s premier lifestyle and entertainment event and DStv is delighted to once again be on board, celebrating 30 years of creative freedom.”
