Despite recent controversies in the media regarding an ongoing legal battle over failed partnership with popular musician, Makhadzi and her record label, the founder of Kicks Sammy Mhaule says they’re ready for a fresh start.

The Tembisa born and bred CEO remains optimistic about the future of the new sneaker brand.

“The journey of entrepreneurship in south Africa can definitely be described as a bumpy ride and it’s been no different with Kicks. Despite all the challenges and growing pains, we have not lost our drive and commitment to do what we do and do it well. Celebrating 2 years in the business is a really important milestone for us, especially because of how challenging the road has been. Now we look forward to a great future, and we’re just so excited to be launching this new range because it really speaks to our resolve to keep moving and remain champions whatever the cost,” he said.

The new range which was launched to mark the brands’ second birthday is available on the Kicks website for pre-order.

The sneaker brand has also announced their partnership with retail giant, Mall of Africa where they’ll be (hosting an event to honor and celebrating the life of Vusi Thanda, the event is for raising funds for good, all the processed will go toward finding him a new home during as go through adversity. The brand will also be hosting a charity event where their previous Khokhova range will be for sale with proceeds going to veteran actor Vusi Thanda. The event, which is set to take place at Mall Africa on the 29TH of October will be supported by some of SA’s biggest stars with performances from Actor and musician, Brian Themba, comedian Mashabela Galene celebrated praise singer Jessica Mbangeni, and DJ Sbu to name but a few.

“The idea to host this event came after myself and the team had seen the video of uBab Vusi Thanda pleading for help on social media. As a brand born out of the hardships of Covid-19, we know first-hand how hard the last few years have been, so helping out was a no brainer. We’ve had the Khokhova stock in our warehouse for quite some time and this is a way to put it to really good use and turn something that would have been otherwise negative, into a silver lining.” Mhaule said.
