Joburg’s summer season has a new address for refined taste and cultural flair. The House of Amber, taking place from 6 November to 14 December at Oxford Parks, marks Inverroche’s bold step into the cultural forefront of African luxury with a six-week pop-up experience that transforms the brand’s pioneering gin into a living expression of flavour, experience, art and sound.
Born from Inverroche Amber Gin, Africa’s first amber-coloured luxury spirit, The House of Amber brings the brand’s story of conscious luxury to life through thoughtful collaborations, immersive sensory design and a dynamic line-up of local talent.
Every touchpoint, from its architecture to its music, has been intentionally curated to deliver a multi-sensory experience that feels as sophisticated as it is social, offering a fresh and vibrant addition to the Joburg scene.
Opening the House alongside Lorna Scott this week, Nomzamo Mbatha, Inverroche’s Cultural Curator, beautifully captured the significance of the occasion; “The proof of Amber’s luxury essence is in its spirit – its African spirit!” she said in her opening speech. “Everything within this House is intentional and luxurious, from the design to the sound, the flavours to the feeling. It’s culturally edgy, sensory, and deeply rooted in who we are. The House of Amber brings together culture, craft and connection and it does so with unmistakable African confidence.”
The Rhythm of Refined Taste
Open Thursday to Sunday, The House of Amber moves in tune with the city, offering unique encounters each evening. Local talent has been carefully curated with Mayonie Productions, founded by Grammy Award Winner Zakes Bantwini, and offers a moody, cultural realm in which to play. Talent transforms each week and will be revealed ahead of time. For opening week, guests can look forward to a colourful mix of artists:
- Acoustic Thursdays: Smooth, soulful soundscapes, kicking off this week with Sio, whose songstress storytelling makes for intimate gatherings and connections on the dancefloor.
- Friends of Fridays: The tempo lifts with Mo-T , bringing his signature brass and modern-jazz flair to the Amber Patio. Smooth, soulful, and unmistakably Joburg – it’s the sound of Amber hour at its best.
- Sounding Saturdays: Weekend energy peaks with Zinny, a favourite amongst the Afrotech aficionados, and the perfect pairing to Saturday night vibes.
- Sensation Sundays: A slower celebration of craft and connection, where mindful luxury meets the city’s effortless charm.
These tailored sessions create a rhythm that’s distinctly Amber, inviting guests to connect and celebrate the sounds and tastes of The House of Amber.
Local Luxury Collaborations
True to Inverroche’s values of innovation and sustainability, The House of Amber is elevated by collaborations with South African brands that embody mindful design and considered luxury.
- The Joinery x House of Amber: A limited-edition collection of Eco-Felt Mini and Maxi Totes, crafted from FutureFelt®, a sustainable fabric made from recycled plastic bottles collected across the country. Each piece in an exquisite amber hue blends functionality with beauty, reflecting luxury with purpose.
- Fieldbar x House of Amber: The locally designed Fieldbar Cooler combines modern craftsmanship with sustainable materials, featuring a House of Amber leather strap and offering an elegant essential for mindful outdoor living.
- Jack Rabbit Chocolates and 1701 Nougat: Two artisanal confectioners reinterpret Inverroche’s botanicals into bespoke treats, offering a taste of luxury that’s rooted in local excellence.
These collaborations underscore Inverroche’s belief that true luxury is conscious, crafted, and connected to place. It’s a philosophy that began in Stilbaai with the distillation of indigenous fynbos and continues to define the brand’s story today. As with the talent, more collaborations will be revealed.
Artistry and Alchemy
The House of Amber cocktail experience, curated by the Just Short mixology team, brings Inverroche’s alchemy to life. Signature serves like Where There’s Smoke, a dramatic terrarium-style creation, and Letters to Lorna, an ode to Inverroche founder Lorna Scott, turn every sip into a story.
The menu offers an array of sultry, sweet and dry cocktails to suit any palate, with firm favourites amongst opening week guests being Peach Please and the Ambergroni.
For those wanting to take a little something of the residency to their own home, bottles of hand-crafted Amber can also be purchased in-store and personally engraved for those who want a memoir or tasteful gift.
