Sabi Sabi Collection’s The Claremont Boutique Hotel celebrates the official opening of Veld & Vine Bistro

What started out as an overcast day, soon turned out to be a beautiful evening under the Claremont Boutique Hotel’s iconic oak tree. As guests arrived through the 1928 Magdalena Gertruide Sauer-designed manor house’s doors, the historic property’s immaculate lawn invited the Upper Claremont neighbourhood, regular hotel guests and media to savour the beautiful Cape Town weather – cocktails and canapés in hand. The occasion: the official opening of the new Veld & Vine Bistro.

On Tuesday, 24 February 2026, a Cocktails on the Lawn event offered an elite group of guests a taste of Veld & Vine Bistro’s farm-to-table experience, with delicious canapés that not only speak to the restaurant’s vision of humble yet elevated cuisine, but also to the family-owned Sabi Sabi Collection’s unique values. The essence of the event echoed sophistication and authenticity and ultimately, no one would have been barred from walking barefoot as the evening progressed. Wines from the nearby Constantia Valley and signature Veld & Vine cocktails complimented beautifully prepared canapés – grounding guests with unique touches throughout the al fresco evening.

Co-owner of Veld & Vine, Sanjay Daya says it was exciting to celebrate the opening of a “much-needed local hotspot that provides an elegant menu in a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.”

The newly launched bistro adds to the wonderful, authentic experiences to be had at and around The Claremont Boutique Hotel. Previously known as a fine dining destination as part of the then Andros Hotel, the bistro now offers both in-house guests and visitors a more accessible approach to Cape Town’s culinary scene. With dishes expressive of the land, guests can expect Western Cape-meets-Mediterranean cuisine and local wine pairings, served in a stylish, welcoming setting. From tantalising entrées to tipples that largely reflect the surrounding Constantia terroir, Veld & Vine works closely with local farms and producers to bring guests an immersive culinary experience with seasonal offerings that stretch across breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Jacques Smit, Marketing Director for the Sabi Sabi Collection adds: “The Sabi Sabi Collection believes in immersive experiences through storytelling. The Claremont Boutique Hotel has a great South African story to tell and the farm-to-fork style of dining at the Veld & Vine Bistro complimented by its unique Constantia Valley wine list tells a very authentic local story. It’s all part of showcasing what makes our country and our Mother City such an amazing destination to visit.”

Whether it’s a breakfast, long lunch on the terrace, a romantic dinner by candlelight, or a gathering of friends over top-quality local wines, Veld & Vine Bistro offers simplicity and an abundant palate. Start off your meal with menu options like Large Knysna Co. Oysters or Tuna Crudo and then choose between an array of mains – from salads and steaks to Lamb Chops or Vegetable and Chickpea Curry. You also can’t go wrong with the Wagyu Burger and Triple-Cooked Fries. For dessert, the Chocolate Torte is a must, or perhaps the famous Lemon Miso Tart. From free-range meat to organic harvest and ethically sourced seafood, the bistro’s choices are committed to both the environment and the people that nurture these ingredients.

Veld & Vine Bistro at the Claremont Boutique Hotel brings dining within the Sabi Sabi Collection full circle, allowing those familiar with the brand to enjoy culinary journeys in the Cape at the same level of precision and passion than what they are used to in the bush.

The bistro is open to the public from 07:00 to 22:00 and the cocktail bar is open from 11:00. Discerning diners might want to keep an eye on the bistro’s seasonal specials – always a unique experience for those with a curious palate. Reservations are recommended and can be made through Dineplan. Extend the experience with a stay at the Claremont Boutique Hotel – a heritage stay, reimagined.
